Solar for Schools understands the importance of children being able to use the internet for education and personal development.

We aim to support children and young people in making use of this and recognise that safeguards need to be in place to ensure children are kept safe at all times.

What data personal data is collected from our app?

No personal identifiable data is collected when using our app. A user account consists of a username (or nickname) and unique token which will be stored on a user’s device. No personal identifiers are collected for account creation or authentication. The purpose of the unique token is to match the user account to the device and nothing more. 

A separate Data Protection Impact Assessment has been created for this app and is reviewed annually.

What steps do we take to keep our users safe?

The Solar for Schools App is built using robust technologies and procedures used across the Solar for Schools (SfS) community. Further information can be found in the SfS privacy policy available below.

Any functionality or changes to the app are assessed to ensure that they meet our values and that the online safety of our users is not compromised. We regularly review the guidance from the NSPCC. Further information on this can be found here.

How to report concerns about safety and wellbeing?

We take any concerns around the safety of our users very seriously. If you have any concerns about online safety within our App please contact us via email at privacy@solarforschools.co.uk.

Who can track the progress of users in the app?

Only the user will be able their progress, no one else.

Is any information like username, school or class included when a user exports content from the app, for example sharing their creation?

No sensitive information is included. For PDF generation, as this is specific for the school, the school's name will be included in the report. Reports are only accessible with a direct link, given only to the user generating the report – and whomever they chose to share the link with.

Are push notifications used in the app?

No.
