Empowering communities: sustainability and inclusivity in action (Feb 16, 2024)
CBS Director and teacher of one of our schools Accrington St Christopher (https://www.st-christophers.org), Wendy Litherland ventured to Munich this week, witnessing firsthand our sister organisation Solar for Schools Bildung's collaboration with Caritas in crafting Solar Explorer kits. The Solar Explorer kits are DIY educational projects for students designed to spark their curiosity in STEM and develop climate literacy skills at a young age. The idea behind these kits is to foster their curiosity in green skills and instil the belief that sustainability is an active principle, not just a concept. None of this work would be possible without our trusted local partner, Caritas. A workshop facility based in Munich and Freising employing individuals with both learning and physical disabilities, they are committed to upskilling people who might otherwise be on the periphery of society . The factory produces everything for the kits except for the solar panels. Many of the parts are recycled, salvaged from the city of Munich, embedding an even more sustainable aspect into the life cycle of the kit, all of which is constructed on site. This isn't just about harnessing solar power; it's about fostering inclusion and building a green and just world.
This meaningful partnership is a testament to the power of collaboration, reminding us that sustainability is about people, planet, and profit working in harmony. Our work together reaffirms our belief that ethics in business means making a real difference in the world - one Solar Explorer kit at a time.
